Wassookeag Snowmobile Club Update
Mar 17, 2009
Recent warm weather and rain has deteriorated our trails considerably.
Our clubhouse and kitchen are now closed for the season. Grooming has also ended for this year.
Thank you to all who supported us this season, we had many good comments about both our trails and clubhouse kitchen.
Special thanks to Rita Fox for keeping us all coming back!
As always, there is an endless list of chores to be ready for next fall – we welcome any volunteer help and donations – just contact a club member with your offer…thanks to all.
Ride Safe.
Wassookeag Snowmobile Club Report
DEXTER - The trails have been groomed and are awesome. Take a ride around the loop and then stop by our kitchen. Rita Fox is our cook and has opened the kitchen to breakfast, lunch, and dinner for your convenience. Her hours are Saturday (7am to 6pm) and Sunday (7am to-3 pm). A letter and ticket for a free meal at our club house has been sent out to our landowners. So landowners bring a guest and have one of Rita's fabulous meals whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner on us.
Think snow and ride safe.

Wassookeag Snowmobile Club Trail Report Wednesday, March 04, 2009
DEXTER - Mother Nature has blessed us with another coat of the stuff we love! Dexter’s trails are in great condition.
We have had a few minor maintenance setbacks this month, but have been able to keep up with the grooming throughout our trail system.
The Railroad Bed (ITS 85) is being groomed Fri, Sat & Sun Nights and on Tue/Thur during the day, the connector trails & club trails are getting done a couple of times a week. Thanks to all of the operators and mechanics for making our trails some of the best in the area!
We replaced a bridge on the Clubhouse Trail earlier in the season – be cautious as there are no rails on it yet, also there is some logging on that same trail for a short distance.
Thank you also to the Charleston Correctional crew for bridge redecking and brush cutting.
As always there is plenty of work to be done, we welcome any volunteer help and donations.
Thanks also go out to all of our generous landowners for the privilege of crossing their properties.
Our clubhouse is open Sat & Sun, stop in and sample some of our cook’s delicious treats!
See you on the trails.

A Dexter Winter Festival Thank You From the Bottom Of Our Hearts
Wednesday, February 18, 2009
DEXTER - The 2009 theme for the Dexter Winter Festival, held on February 13-15 , "Valentine's Day- The Heart of Maine" only seemed appropriate. The Wassookeag Snowmobile Club would like to thank the following people from the bottoms of our hearts:
The Dexter Town Office Staff, Dave Pearson, Art Roy and the Police Department, the Dexter Fire Department, Mike Delaware and the Highway Crew, Steve Wilbur, all judges, the Key Club gals, Rita Fox and her wonderful kitchen staff & special family members, Steve Brown & Family, Rock of Ages, Bob Titus, the super Ripley Trail Riders, to Newport, Corinna and Dover Clubs and to all the very active members of the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club and a special thank you to the "public".
Without your support and generous donations, all the events could not succeed.
It takes many hours of planning and requires many volunteers for Winter-fest to take place, and we proved that we do live in the Heart of Maine!
Snowmobilers: Ride Safely
These following tips will contribute to a safe and enjoyable ride.
* Ride Sober -- A high percentage of snowmobile fatalities and injuries are the direct result of someone's irresponsible use of alcohol. Don't drink and ride. Don't let anyone else in your group drink and ride.
* Ride At A Reasonable Speed -- Speed limits are determined by existing conditions. If you can't control your sled safely at the speed you are going, you are going too fast. You are not only threatening your safety, but the safety of others around you. Slow down.
* Be Aware Of Conditions -- Early season riding often means little snow or poor cover. Objects that are covered later in the season are now exposed or barely hidden. Ride accordingly.
* Be Aware Of Darkness -- Low-light and darkness require special care. The flat lighting that is present in December can alter depth perception and the ability to see. Slower speeds ensure a safer ride.
* Travel Together -- Don't ride alone, and let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back.
* Use Hand Signals -- The use of a simple set of hand signals on the trails keeps traffic orderly and predictable. These signals inform other sledders of your actions. Know them and use them.
* Ride Defensively -- You can do everything right, but still encounter a rider who is doing everything wrong. By riding defensively, you will be prepared to respond and avoid a dangerous situation.
