Trail Report update 1/27/10
January thaw is upon us! The rains last week have depleted our base considerably and we need snow.
Our grooming crew is doing it's best to keep ITS 85 in fair shape, but the side trails have many wet holes and bare spots. Please ride with extreme caution. We must wait for Mother Nature's help in getting things back to normal.

Special thanks go out to our groomer operators and maintenance crew - Ray Bailey, Mark Hanscom, Stewart Hopkins, Matt McKusick, Neil Scannell, Jim Silverman, John Fogarty and Scott warren.

Club members are very busy getting ready for our 10th Annual Winterfest. If you have any questions regarding plans you can contact Lynn McKusick or Del Hodgkins.

We have a great group of dedicated folks who have been out brushing trails in the last several weeks – Stewart Hopkins, the McKusick and Lawson Families, John & Trevor Fogarty, Mike Moore, Ray Poulin, Jim Silverman, Ken Pooler, Neil Scannell & Scott Warren – if you see any of these people, make sure to give them a big thank you!

Brian Long, Bob Gelzinis and Roger Wyman have been helping to keep the clubhouse safe & warm so Sue & Paul can serve up some great home cooking. We also want to thank John Guay and all the kids at the building program at TCTC, Charlie Chabot and Chip Wakefield for help on our concession trailer.

We are still in need of windows for the clubhouse and a grill and fryer for our concession trailer. As always, any donations are greatly appreciated.

Safety note – ITS 85 is now posted 25 mph thru town
Please ride safe, see you on the trails
Contact Scott Warren at 924-3014 or John Fogarty at 924-5036 for more information

Snowmobilers: Ride Safely
These following tips will contribute to a safe and enjoyable ride.

* Ride Sober -- A high percentage of snowmobile fatalities and injuries are the direct result of someone's irresponsible use of alcohol. Don't drink and ride. Don't let anyone else in your group drink and ride.
* Ride At A Reasonable Speed -- Speed limits are determined by existing conditions. If you can't control your sled safely at the speed you are going, you are going too fast. You are not only threatening your safety, but the safety of others around you. Slow down.
* Be Aware Of Conditions -- Early season riding often means little snow or poor cover. Objects that are covered later in the season are now exposed or barely hidden. Ride accordingly.
* Be Aware Of Darkness -- Low-light and darkness require special care. The flat lighting that is present in December can alter depth perception and the ability to see. Slower speeds ensure a safer ride.
* Travel Together -- Don't ride alone, and let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back.
* Use Hand Signals -- The use of a simple set of hand signals on the trails keeps traffic orderly and predictable. These signals inform other sledders of your actions. Know them and use them.
* Ride Defensively -- You can do everything right, but still encounter a rider who is doing everything wrong. By riding defensively, you will be prepared to respond and avoid a dangerous situation.
