Submitted by Lynn McKusick - We are in full swing with February's Dexter Winter Festival 2005 activities at the top of the agenda for the month. We are planning many activities with the Town of Dexter to include a radar run, NCRC horse drawn wagon rides, snow sculpture contest, fireworks, dance, silent auction, fishing derby, snowmobile parade, WSC Open House and more for February 19 & 20. The club has purchased a Tucker to drag the trails this year. We have had it "out and about" once but waiting for the snow to arrive. They are anxious to get started and praying for snow! The trails have been marked but if there are signs missing please let us know. We work hard to make our trails safe. We have done some work on the trails this Fall to make the trails more accessible and safer. Work is never ending! Mother nature keeps us busy with wash outs and the beavers have their hands in some of it as well! Trail work was improved from the Railroad bed to the Log Cabin Store. A bad wash out towards Cambridge was fixed and one in Garland. Brush work was done from the Easton Road to Main Stream. Those "Sunday work mornings" have paid off. Thank you to all active members! Del gives us the update from the MSA meetings he attends. He encouraged us to sell more tickets for the supper raffle for next year. Thousands of dollars are raised from this ticket sale. And the club that sells the most tickets are rewarded! Our membership is only about half what it should be at this time. We are looking forward to receiving a membership from you or your business. Your local club needs support from snowmobile enthusiast like you. Maintaining the trails is volunteered but maintenance and fuel is not. Please let us know if you have not been approached about being a member to the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club. We would love to have you on board! (We need more snow...we know, we know!) We also want to send our thoughts and prayers to Hal Wilkins (Our Friend & Trail Master ) for a speedy and complete recovery from his illness. We really, really miss him! Can't wait to have him back...but in the meantime...get well! We wish you and your family a healthy 2005! |
