DEXTER - On the weekend of February 16-18, weather permitting, the Town of Dexter, Dexter Merchants and the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club will host the seventh annual Winter Festival in Dexter. The theme for this year’s festival is “Bring Back the Fabulous Fifties”! The theme is applied to the snow sculpture contest (excluding the school category), the dance, the parade and for area merchants to dress up. Please promote yourselves with dressing up or having a related sale or give away! So...dust off those saddle shoes, poodle skirts, tight jeans and t-shirts. Slick back your hair and listen to the tunes of Buddy Holly, Nat King Cole, Frankie Avalon, Elvis, Johnny Ray, Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Head into town doing the Jitterbug, the Mashed Potato, the Pony, the Swim or even the Twist! Have yourself a cheeseburger, French fries and a root beer float to celebrate. Dig out the hula hoops, chew some bubble gum or rent a movie with James Dean or you can read a book about Marilyn Monroe. Just bring back the fabulous fifties! Friday, February 16
Winter Festival Dance - Saturday night at the K of C Hall in Dexter. Doors will open at 7:30 and a DJ will be playing until midnight. Program includes a silent auction sponsored by Maine Military Supply. Cost is $6 per person at the door. If you arrive dressed in your best 50’s costume you will receive $1 off your admission and a chance to win a door prize! Snow Sculpture Contest- Contest is open to individuals, organizations and businesses and school groups. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to winners in each category. The contest sites will be located in the vicinity of Lakeshore Lunch on Lake Wassookeag and at the Dexter High School. Contestants must enter by Wednesday, February 14th to compete. Contest details and entry forms are available at the Dexter Town Office. You may also register on the Town of Dexter web site at www.dextermaine.org. There is no entry fee. Announcement of the winners and presentation of awards for this contest will be awarded Sunday, February 18th at noon at the Snowmobile Clubhouse. Snowmobile Parade - Parade participants will gather along ITS 85(railbed) at the intersection of McFarland Street beginning at 10:30 AM on Sunday. The parade will begin promptly at 11:00 AM. Judging will take place as the parade passes Motor Supply Company at the intersection of Grove and Dam Streets. Awards will be presented immediately following the parade at the Wassookeag Snowmobile Club. There is no entry fee.
