PENQUIS - Did you know several of our volunteers are from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program? We also have volunteers who participate in the Aspire Program. There are formally battered women on our volunteer staff and there are those who have been lucky enough to have never been stalked, harassed, beaten or feared for their lives. What all these people have in common is a passion for the issue of domestic abuse and the desire to empower those who have been victimized to know that it wasn’t their fault, that they don’t have to live this way and that they can get safe. Did you know that volunteers help staff our out reach offices in Dexter, Milo and Greenville? Volunteers also facilitate two support groups and assist in answering our 24 hour help line, both in the office and from home after hours, weekends and holidays. Most recently, volunteers participated with our Teen Services Coordinator in Nat’l Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week, staffing information tables at five area high schools (We call it tabling). Wouldn’t you like to be part of this dynamic group providing services to victims, working towards social change and encouraging zero tolerance? The past several years we have collaborated with the Piscataquis Adult Education Cooperative in promoting our 36 hour trainings required to join our direct service volunteer staff. Please look for our information in the Fall and Spring adult education flyers. There is still room in our next 36 hour training which begins Tuesday, March 2, from 5 pm to 8 pm at our 8 Mechanic Street office in Dover-Foxcroft. Please call Ginger at 564-8165 for more information and to register. Womancare recognizes there is no way a staff of eight could provide the services we do without our volunteers. All our volunteer advocates are well trained and very capable to assist victims. Womancare is grateful and proud of our volunteer staff. Please think about joining us! |
