DEXTER - The Key Club is having a very busy week as we work our way to vacation next week. Last Friday, the Key Club set up it's wishing well for March of Dimes at P & L Market, collecting donations for premature babies. We set up outside at 3:00 PM, which wasn't bad as the air temperature was 24 degrees and there was no wind. The sun was also out, which made it comfortable. However, from 5:00 to 6:00 after the sun went down it got cold! We were literally collecting "cold cash" and by the time we were done the temperature was 10 degrees and we were jumping around to keep warm.
Key Clubbers Becca Warren, Katie Eastman and Kayla Libby manned the wishing well with advisor Mr. Whitney. What was great about the event was the $91.45 we collected for March of Dimes. We received a lot of "sympathy cash" and we are thankful for everyone that donated and to P & L for letting us set up. The March of Dimes Drive ends at the high school on Thursday. The four classes and the faculty have had a Dime Wars Challenge and Monday our amount raised passed $1,300, or $100 more than we raised last year. The students have been bringing in bags of pennies, nickels and dimes to help us get to our goal. We are hoping that we will end with $1,500-1,600 to help March of Dimes, and if we raise the most of the 15 schools participating, we could win a free video dance for the school.
The Dexter and Garland K-Kids met this week. They are working on a Staff Appreciation Day in their schools and we took the kids out sledding after. The Dexter K-Kids raised $65.00 in change for the local food cupboard in their penny drive and they also had over 80 cans of soup they raised for the food cupboard.
We are currently preparing for District Convention in April and all the clubs need to get our paperwork in this week. The Convention is in April and the Dexter Key Club is entering a number of contests for awards. Also, our Treasurer, Becca Warren, will be running for New England District Treasurer. This is the first time our club has ever had someone run for a district office, so convention should be exciting. During vacation week, we hope to set up our Wishing Well one more time, and also go visit the troops in Bangor. We also are planning to visit the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis meeting on Tuesday morning, so we will stay active during the vacation."This content originally appeared as a copyrighted article in the SVWeekly.com and is used here with permission."
