BANGOR--The "Responding to Child Abuse" workshop series for professionals who work with children will begin March 4th instead of February 25th as originally scheduled. The workshops will be held on Mondays, March 4th to May 13th, from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at Penquis Valley School, 35 West Main Street, Milo. The cost is $250 for the entire course or $25 for each workshop. CEU or teacher recertification credits available. Advanced registration is required by February 26. The course is a multidisciplinary overview of child abuse and neglect. A team of experts provide participants with an opportunity to learn about the nature of child maltreatment and its prevalence in Maine. Participants become familiar with the process of reporting suspected abuse as well as community resources that focus on prevention. The goal is to enable participants to work effectively in the identification and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Participants are required to complete a 25-hour project related to child abuse and neglect that can be used in his/her work environment.
