Operation Graduation 1st Annual Fishing Derby
Monday, March 02, 2009
DEXTER - March came in with a great day for a fishing derby! DRHS Operation Graduation 1st annual Fishing Derby sponsored by Toot's Deli was a great success with over $400 going to the class of 2009's senior trip and over $340 going back out in prizes.

There were 17 fish weighed in by Vince Sawyer of Toot's Deli. Students and Parents were on hand to watch the weigh in procedure and marvel at the size of some of those fish.

Tammy Beam from Garland gave the men a good fight with her .90lb Trout but in the end Bradley Wilcox landed a 1.20lb trout to be the final winner.

The race for the biggest Togue was a close one. Five were brought in from 2.79lbs to the big winner weighing 5.07lbs by DRHS music teacher Mr. Ted Nokes.

The children's division was so much fun! How they even got those Bass through the ice without getting pulled down the hole was amazing. Dylan Childress was first with his 5.21lb Bass, also the biggest fish of the day, second was Austin Childress with his 3.45lb Bass and Brayden Miller was third with his 3.32lb Bass. All three boys got trophies made by Wyman's Trophies in Dexter.

We had several door prizes donated by area businesses and Operation Graduation parents. A fishing basket filled with supplies was won by Jeffrey Perry, a propane grill was won by Rick Sherbourne, a Jet Sled was won by Ted Nokes and a Subway 3' Party Sub was won by Tim McDonald.

There were no salmon caught that day so we had an additional door prize drawing for $50 which was won by Michael Wing.

The senior who sold the most tickets also got $50 which was Heather Williams.

We want to thank everyone who participated and look forward to next year!
