New Transitional Housing in Dexter

DEXTER - Womancare/Aegis Association in conjunction with Penquis CAP and Maine State Housing Authority is opening a new apartment building in Dexter as part of Womancare's Transitional Housing Program.

This program is designed to provide a safe, caring, supportive, and secure environment for women and children who are homeless due to domestic violence. While in Transitional Housing, a participant will have services available as well. These include crisis intervention, the availability of a 24-hour helpline, safety planning, support group, and court advocacy. Other services may include parenting classes, help with a job search, assistance in enrolling in school, creating a budget, and locating permanent housing with the goal of financial independence.

Anyone needing additional information may call Womancare in Dover-Foxcroft at 1-888-8165 or 564-8165. Womancare provides the community with education about domestic violence, a 24-hour helpline, legal advocacy, and education about healthy relationships grades Pre-K through 12.
