A Moosehead employees celebration to aid workers
Wednesday, March 14, 2007
PENQUIS - A fund-raising gala called a “Moosehead Employee Celebration” will be held Sunday, March 25th at 3:00 pm at Foxcroft Academy with proceeds going to help more than 90 former Moosehead Manufacturing employees.

Sponsored by the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Clubs of Milo, Guilford, Dover-Foxcroft and Greenville, the stellar performances will feature the Downeast Country Music Association's Band of the Year, Dirigo Highway; Sid Stutzman's popular Doughty Hill Band and the new Foxcroft Academy Jazz Ensemble with members of the Alumni Jazz Band.

All proceeds from the show will go to benefit the employees of Moosehead Manufacturing Company who recently lost their jobs.

Project chairperson, Judy Folsom said the concert has a dual purpose, “First, we want to come together as a region to support our friends and neighbors who worked at Moosehead, but at the same time we want to celebrate their well-known skills and dedication. This show will give us the opportunity to do both. Moosehead and its employees have been the area's leading supporter of 'causes' for more than 50 years. Now it's time for all of us to give something back to them.”

Tickets for the 2 ½ hour performance are available at the Monson town office, Hudson Avenue Florist in Guilford, all Camden National Bank and Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union locations in the area, the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Paperback in Dover-Foxcroft and Webber Hardware.

Moosehead Manufacturing Company was founded in 1947 and in the 60 years since its incorporation the company shipped furniture across the United States, Canada and to Bermuda, Panama, Puerto Rico, Japan and South Korea. At its peak the company employed more than 250 workers at two plants in Monson and Dover-Foxcroft.

Also appearing is Dirigo Highway, a country music group formed in 2001 and this year named NACMAI's Traditional Band of the Year. Sid Stutzman's ever-popular Doughty Hill Band will bring its easy-going style to the stage with smooth harmonies and great instrumentals. Rounding out the show will be the new Foxcroft Academy Jazz ensemble featuring members of the Alumni Jazz Band under the direction of Shane Ellis.

The Moosehead Employee Celebration will be an extraordinary night of music and community. To Judy Folsom “It shows the heart of Piscataquis County.”
