The 20th Annual Penquis Valley Expo scheduled to be held at Piscataquis Community High School on April 4th & 5th will not only offer Expo goers an opportunity to visit over 70 displays by local business and organizations. But at the same time explore ways to bring the $2.5 billion tourist industry to our region. This year Expo will feature a local tourism conference sponsored by The Piscataquis Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. The conference will feature tourism experts from throughout the State to discuss tourism development with local stakeholders. The goal of the conference will be to create a regional tourist task force to develop a future tourism-marketing plan for the region explained Chamber Director Dennis Lyford. On Friday April 4th at 7AM the conference will begin with a power point presentation from the Maine Office of Tourism by Donna Fichtner. Donna is the former Executive Director of the Moosehead Lake Chamber of Commerce and is currently Executive Director of the Bangor Convention &Visitors Bureau. The second representation will be tourism products packaging by The Maine Highland Corporation President John Holden of the Eastern Maine Development Corporation. On Saturday at 10 am Roger Merchant from the Piscataquis County Office of the U of Maine Co-op Extension will present Community based approaches to Cultural and Natures based tourism. Roger has been traveling throughout the Eastern United States studying Cultural and Natural based tourism. At 11:10 AM Caribou Director of Parks and Recreation Dept Cathy Mazuchelli will present a power point presentation on multi use trails. This will be followed by a presentation by Bob Myers Executive Director of the Maine Snowmobile Association at 12:30. The conference last session will be at 1pm with Bruce Harzard Director of the Maine Mountain Heritage Network will address the conference on the Mountain County Heritage Program. In addition to the tourism conference the Expo will feature a display by the Mid Maine Historical Society of businesses from the region past. The display will include, The American Tread Company in Milo/ the Dyer Hewes Piano Company in Dover-Foxcroft and Stutzman Farms of Sangerville. The Expo will also feature musical entertainment from the Buie School of Music and a two- day fire fighters display by the Guilford Fire Dept. On Saturday Spring Creek BBQ of Monson will offer a BBQ demonstration. The Expo doors will open on Friday April 4th at 6pm and close at 9 PM.
