On Thursday, April 7th, 2011 Lihua Lei an artist from Solon visited the Options program at Dexter Regional High School for a Personal Development segment in Asian cooking. The students learned to make egg rolls, vegetarian sushi and miso soup. All students were actively engaged in the preparation at several levels and the food was delicious! Most students had never experienced 'real' Asian cuisine and were surprised at the mix of ingredients.

Lihua, a friend of Options instructor, Kathryn Thompson, was born in Taiwan and came to the United States in her early 20's. She contracted polio when she was 5 months old and is one of the few artists with a disability who have gone beyond the picture plane, breaking through to installation and multimedia that is reflective of her life experiences. She was a 2008 Honoree of the National Women's History Project.

It was an enjoyable time for all, and Dexter Regional High School Options staff and students would like to thank Lihua Lei very much for coming!
