It's Sparkle time in Sebasticook Valley
Thursday, April 14, 2011
PALMYRA – Six months and counting, the Sebasticook Valley Chamber of Commerce is preparing to once again host “the party you don't want to miss”, the largest charitable fundraiser of its kind in the area.

Sparkle 2011 is scheduled for Nov. 5, at Millennium on Route 100 in Palmyra.

Sparkle is the collaborative effort of the Chamber and up to 12 charitable organizations from the towns served by the Chamber who will benefit from the net proceeds. Over the past five years, more than $65,000 has been distributed to participating charities

Planners for this year's Sparkle began meeting this month and will start a regular schedule in May. The priority at this point is to receive applications for interested charities in the 12-town area. Participating groups must commit at least two people from the organization to serve on and attend committee meetings; sell a minimum of 10 tickets (20 people) to the event; obtain at least five sponsorship ads for the program book and obtain at least five silent (minimum $50 value each) and one live auction item ($200 value).

It is the vision of the Chamber that by working together as a concentrated effort the annual Sparkle fundraiser will enhance each of the charities in a significant and meaningful way. Last year, seven charities benefited from participation in planning and hosting the Saturday night party, taking home a check for $1,500 each.

As one small town charity put it, “That's a lot of bean suppers,” all wrapped into one event with a significant payoff.

Sparkle will once again be held at Millennium in Palmyra. The party includes a silent and live auction, a talent show, entertainment, and an array of hors d'œuvres and beverages, topped with a finale of dancing.

The organizing committee is once again actively seeking volunteers, sponsors and advertisers interested in participating in the planning in addition to the participating charities. More information is available at the Chamber office at 386-4698.

Last year's beneficiaries included : Corinna Jr. Warriors, Pittsfield Historical Society, Newport Cultural Center Friends of the Library, Newport Woman's Club, Pittsfield Community Theatre Fundraising Committee, Sebasticook Family Doctors and Stetson Historical Society,

While the same charities may apply again, more applications from other charities are encouraged.

Applications are available at the Chamber office, the log cabin in the WalMart parking lot, or by email svcc@midmaine.com Copies also will be distributed to town offices in the 12-town service area. Deadline for returning applications is May 27, 2011.
