DEXTER - On May Day Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis members teamed with the Dexter Key Club and the Modern Woodsman of America to clean up the downtown area in Dexter. Each year, Kiwanis International dedicates a day for Kiwanis clubs to team up with another Kiwanis family group, whether a Circle K, Key Club, Builder's Club or K-Kids, to do a community service project. This year Kiwanis scheduled April 10th as Kiwanis One Day, but Dexter Key Club was at New England District Convention and the local Kiwanis club rescheduled the local One Day to this past Saturday. Twenty-two people from the three organizations met in the municipal parking lot behind Bangor Savings Bank at 8:00AM. Workers picked litter and swept the parking lot area until 10:30. Areas covered by the litter patrol included; both municipal parking lots, embankments behind Family Dollar and CN Brown, Water Street, Reny's parking lot, Zions Hill, the ATV trail from Zions Hill to Grove Street, Wayside Park, the stream from the museum to Chia Apartments and Spring Street as far as Toot's. About twelve bags of litter was collected and 54 five gallon pails representing 270 gallons of material was swept up from the municipal parking lot behind Bangor Savings Bank. Event organizers were Barbara Herring from the Kiwanis club, Michelle Lamoreau from Modern Woodsman and Rick Whitney from the Key Club. |
