Silver's Mills Union Church news

A Note about upcoming summer events:
The Silver’s Mills Union Church Trustees are inviting friends and residents both present and past of Silver’s Mills to a Box Lunch Social at the Church at Noon on July 12th.

Following the picnic, an official tour of the church and presentation of church and Silver’s Mills History will be shared by all. Just one hundred years ago a group of residents gathered in the Silvers Mills Railroad Station with the intent to form a parish and build a church for their community. This gathering of old and new friends on July 12th is to honor those efforts and to share in the history that made this community of early 1842 settlers a viable experience for many of our ancestors.

This celebration will also be used to generate working funds for the upkeep of the last remaining public gathering place in Silver’s Mills. The mill, stores, railroad station, and potato house are gone, only the church remains, which needs an ongoing plan for maintenance. This year’s project is the re-roofing of the steeple with plans for a complete re-roofing in the following year. In planning and implementation of the this Reunion the South Sangerville Grange will host a Dinner meal followed with a Community Auction of New and Historic items with proceeds being designated for the S.M.U.Church Steeple Project. This event is planned for sometime in June. Date to be announced.

George Dever, the pastor for the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Membership, will be coordinating with several guest ministers the program for the morning worship service at ten. Church members and Grangers will also help with gathering chairs and tables and set up of shade canopies prior to the noon picnic. Trustees will be providing noontime punch and a Special Centennial Cake. After lunch the Trustees and special guests will be presenting and sharing Church History of the last 100 years. In addition, residents and guests will present stories of the families and their influences on the Silver’s Mills Community situated on the Valley Avenue Road in the northeast corner of Dexter and southeast corner of Sangerville.
