Barbecue State Championship Return to Dover-Foxcroft

The Maine State Championship Barbecue Contest will once again return to the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft .The contest will be part of the Southern Piscataquis County Chamber of Commerce's 2nd annual Piscataquis Heritage Festival that will be held on September 27 & 28.

Festival organizers are planning a two-day event centered on food & music, in addition to the barbecue contest a Blue grass concerts is being planned.

Barbecue Contest Chairmen Jim Macomber explained that the Maine State Championship Barbecue contest is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. In order for a team to compete for the national championship in Kansas City, they first must win a state championship.

With 12 teams from the Northeastern States competing, we were very please with the results of last year contest said Macomber. Macomber has reported that teams from as far away as Canada have expressed interest in this year contest and he believes the event will continue to grow.

A Blue grass music will also featured at the festival with a two-day concert. The Chamber hopes to expand this years concert into the evening hours said Chamber Director Dennis Lyford. Judy MacKinney of Dover-Foxcroft will once again chair the Blue Grass event.

The Chamber also would like to add a section of crafters, food vendors and other businesses to display at the Festival said Lyford.
