By Diana Bowley of the BDN Staff : DEXTER, Maine — The newly formed Alternative Organizational Structure 94 board has submitted a proposed 2010 budget for administrative costs of $449,292, effective July 1.
AOS 94 comprises the town of Harmony and the SAD 46 towns of Dexter, Exeter, Ripley and Garland. An AOS is an option available under the state’s school reorganization law.
A vote on the AOS 94 budget is set for a public budget meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Harmony Elementary School. The budget validation referendum to confirm the action taken at this week’s AOS meeting is set for June 23 in Harmony and the SAD 46 towns.
In addition to the referendum vote on the shared administrative costs, residents in SAD 46 and Harmony also will confirm their respective budgets for remaining school costs during that same referendum.
The AOS budget covers the services of seven SAD 46 employees, who now will be AOS 94 employees. The budget includes the salary of the superintendent, his office staff and expenses, the special services director, her secretary and expenses, and the transportation director and his expenses.
The cost-sharing arrangement between Harmony and SAD 46 is based 50 percent on student population and 50 percent on the latest valuations for AOS 94 communities. Essentially, SAD 46 will be responsible for 88 percent of the shared services, and Harmony 12 percent.
The AOS board recently elected SAD 46 Superintendent Kevin Jordan to serve as superintendent for three years and set his salary at $97,295, an increase of $7,688 from his current salary. The addition reflects the extra duties Jordan will have in Harmony.
Also recommended was a salary of $74,035 for the special services director, an increase of $4,098 over the current year. The transportation director’s salary was set at $45,622, which reflects an increase of $2,299.
