Lynx volunteer drivers recognized

CENTRAL MAINE - In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, held Sunday, April 17th through Saturday, April 23rd, the Penquis Community Action Program recognized and celebrated its volunteer drivers.

These drivers donated 105,713 hours last year transporting people of all ages to medical and social service appointments. Sixty-one volunteer drivers were named to the Maine Governor’s Roll of Honor and received certificates from Governor Baldacci celebrating 500 plus hours of service.

Seventy-five volunteers were awarded a Presidential Service Award, which was presented to volunteers who have donated at least 100 hours in the previous year: two received bronze awards for 100-249 hours; nine received silver awards for 250-499 hours; fifty-one received gold for 500-3,999 hours; and thirteen received the Lifetime “Call to Service” Award for 4,000 or more hours – reflecting two years of service at Penquis CAP’s transportation program, The Lynx.

Lifetime Service Award recipients included: Betty Buxton of Dexter, Theresa Walton of Dover-Foxcroft, Larry Johnston of Sebec and Terry Lilly of Garland.
