Wayside Theatre performance of "VOICES"
Monday, June 09, 2003
NORTH DEXTER - Wayside Theatre invites you to come to the theatre to audition on Saturday, June 28, at 2:00 p.m. for a script-in-hand reading of "Voices" to be performed at the theatre in North Dexter on Route 23. The play is a compilation of stories of five women, who were born into different periods of the Twentieth Century and how their lives have been effected differently by that history.

There are roles for five women of various ages ranging from 20 to 70. No theatre experience is necessary. Scripts will be provided. This is a poetry play by Susan Griffin, which is read, not memorized. As each of the five women of various ages and experiences tells her story or expresses her feelings, each voice blends into the story of the next, and so on. The subject matter covers broad issues that pertain primarily to women and their reactions to events and situations in their lives. As the reading comes to a close, the voices all blend into one voice, signifying that the individual experiences and feelings are shared by all women to some extent or in some way.

This production will be directed by Marcia Joy Douglas, who is a drama professor at the University of Maine. She joined the faculty of the University in 1999, where she teaches acting, improvisation, movement and voice. She has an MA in directing from the University of Washington and an MFA in acting from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. With over 30 years' experience in teaching, she has also worked on over 200 productions, directing, acting or choreographing. She has also taught workshops and performed her one woman improvisational show nationally and internationally. In addition to her work in theatre, she is also a Reiki Master and has taught workshops on healing and energy since the early 1970's. She has received a grant to take her production of "Voices" to three area theatres, starting with Wayside Theatre.

Rehearsals will be held July 7 through July 10, with one performance on Saturday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m. at Wayside Theatre.

There is no admission charge for this performance.
