Blood Donations Needed Coming into Summer Season
Donors Urged To Visit Red Cross Replenish Blood Supplies Affected By Severe Winter Weather
Monday, June 16, 2008
DEXTER - The American Red Cross is asking eligible blood donors to help replenish blood supplies affected by this year’s unusually extended and severe winter weather.

“Now that spring has finally arrived, blood donors are urgently needed to help make up the deficits caused by our harsh winter weather this year, said Susan Parmer, R.N., CEO of the American Red Cross Blood Services, Northern New England Region. “We hope everyone will get out and enjoy the beautiful weather we have all been waiting for. When you do, please to make a point to stop by a Red Cross blood drive and donate the Gift of Life during this season of renewal.”

Eligible donors in Dexter will have the opportunity to help make sure patients in hospitals will have the blood they need on Monday, June 23rd at the American Legion Hall on Grove Street. Donor hours are from 2 to 7 and donations of all blood types are needed at this time.

Blood is necessary to sustain life and there is no source other than a caring volunteer donor. By sharing this life source, blood donors establish a special connection with another person unlike any other. Giving blood is one of the most unselfish acts anyone can do.

“The very thing patients need to regain health is flowing through the veins of the people in our community,” said Parmer. “And ensuring an adequate blood supply for these patients is of the utmost importance. This period of time, between the weather related challenges of winter and the special challenges of the summer season, is a golden opportunity to shore up blood supplies in our community.”
