Gobal Warming and the Future of our Planet Essay Contest

DEXTER - Sponsored by Dexter's Wayside Theatre and The Dexter Energy Committee, the results of the essay contest for seventh and eighth grade students in the Piscataquis Community Middle School are: Under the direction of Social Studies teacher Rex Webb, and judged by June Woodman, the students were provided with Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" dvd and were asked to also research information about the opposing view of global warming through the internet.

Out of seventy entries, three of the best essays in each grade received their awards on June 18.

The winning 8th grade essays were : Rachael Lynn Nelson 1st place, Rebecca Grant 2nd Place, and Chelsea Baillargeon 3rd Place.

The seventh grade winners were: Paul Martin, 1st Place, Asia Wohlfeil 2nd Place, and Will Cartwright 3rd Place.

The first and second place winners were each awarded a $100 savings bond, donated by the Dexter Energy Committee and Wayside Theatre, and the two third place winners were given Certificates of Merit.

Wayside Theatre and Rex Webb are expecting to plan another essay contest next year to follow the contest about "Most Honorable Son", The Ben Kuroki documentary and the Global Warming and the Future of our Planet essay this year.
