DEXTER - This past April, students from Dexter Regional High School attended the Fiesta-Val Music Festival in Williamsburg Virginia and brought home three first-place trophies and a trophy for overall highest score.

Dexter Jazz Band

Two Seniors at DRHS, Katie Giles and Mary Ellms, began planning the trip the previous summer. They approached the Dexter Regional Music Boosters in August and asked for help in raising money for the trip. Soon a fund-raising committee was formed, headed by Gayle Peirce, and a series of fundraisers were organized throughout the school year. Together parents, area businesses, and community members raised over eleven thousand dollars to help pay for the trip.

The group of students and chaperones left on March 31 and traveled overnight to Colonial Williamsburg, where the students enjoyed an afternoon exploring the re-created colonial village. The stockades were the chaperones favorite item! On Friday the DRHS Band and Jazz Band, conducted by Ted Nokes, achieved first place in their divisions, with the DRHS Band also receiving a trophy for overall highest score.

Dexter Chorus

The DRHS Traveling Chorus, conducted by Deborah Fournier, also achieved a first place in their division. The Traveling Chorus was a madrigal group formed in January and consisted of 11 students from DRHS who were interested in competing.

On Saturday the groups went to the Busch Gardens Amusement Park for the day where the students and chaperones enjoyed the roller coasters, water rides, and European-styled food and activity theme areas. On Saturday evening was the awards ceremony, where the trophies were presented. After the ceremony the tired but satisfied group traveled back to Dexter.

They would like to express their sincere appreciation to all those who helped make the trip possible.
