DEXTER - Dexter Historical Society's museums opened for the 41st season on June 16. New acquisitions are featured at the Grist Mill Museum, such as a wooden sign for the W.J. Haseltine harness shop and a photo of one of the old Sportsman's Shows. Michelle Chapman and Jana Kenney will be sharing intern duties to assist Curator Richard Whitney. They will be mounting a display honoring the Dexter High School Class of 1958, which observes its 50th reunion this year. The family of Johnny Jewett has loaned the society his drum set from the Nitehawks band. It is on display, with photos and a band jacket, at the Abbott Museum. Visitors may enjoy dancing a bit to music from the band that will be heard via a CD of tracks recorded in 1972. A new display at the Abbott Museum in the Lancaster Room features photos and information about the Lancaster/Russell family of Harold and Gwen (Russell) Lancaster in whose honor the room was sponsored. Both museums are open Monday-Friday 10-4, the Grist Mill 1-4 on Saturday while the Abbott Museum continues at 10-4 on Saturday. For information call 924-5721. |
