Key Club Corner: Dexter to Denver
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Wednesday, July 9th
Early Wednesday morning five members of the Dexter Key Club set off for their adventure in Denver. We had a parent drive us to Portland, Maine where we got on a bus that took us to Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts.

At the Logan Airport we met about 75 members and advisors of New England Key Clubs. Our flight left Boston a half hour late, but arrived in Atlanta right on time. We had about a two hour lay over in Atlanta. From there we headed for Denver and the 65th International Key Club Convention.

This is Dexter’s fourth trip to the International Convention out of the 10 years we have had a club. We had a half hour bus ride to the Sheraton and we had to wait again at the hotel for our room keys. We had until 8:00 PM to get settled and get something to eat because we had an enormous icebreaker with over 500 Key Clubbers. This went until 11:30 PM. However, every night at 11:00 PM the New England District has a meeting to plan out the next days activities.

The curfew is at midnight every night and New England was exhausted after a 26 hour day!! As we gain 2 hours coming west.

Thursday, July 10th
Thursday morning we got up early and walked to get bagels and cream cheese.

At 9:00 Pm we had our first workshops:
President, Megan Crane went to the President’s Workshop
Youth Coordinator: Katie Eastman went to the secretary workshop
Treasurer: Becca Warren went to the treasurer workshop
SV Weekly editor: Cally Theodore went to the editor’s workshop
Sophomore Representative: Jake Sherburne went to the web master’s workshop

Megan Crane and Becca Warren are our delegates and got registered today also. From 2-4 PM was the service fair. That was very interesting to see all the hard work that the other clubs did. We got a few great ideas for service projects for next year and also met a bunch of new people. We had our first opening session tonight from 7-9 PM. There were 28 different nations that came to International this year. Also we had our Luau Dance from 9:30-11:30 PM!!

There are still other days to come so stay tuned for next weeks to get more details and pictures!! "This content originally appeared as a copyrighted article in the SVWeekly.com and is used here with permission."
