Register Now For Maine’s Largest Free Pig Scramble
Thursday, July 28, 2011
DEXTER - Registration is now open for children ages 3 through 12 who want to participate in the “Biggest Pig Scramble in Maine” being held at 1 PM at P & L Country Market on Saturday, August 6th. Every year the scramble grows with well over 500 children participating in 2010.

This year, eighty pigs have been ordered and organizers are hoping for another great turnout for the scramble which is in its eighth year. Children will be broken down into age groups of 3 to 4 year olds, 5 to 6 year olds, 7 to 8 year olds, 9 to 10 year olds and 11 to 12 year olds. Groups of approximately 10 children each will take turns scrambling for a pig. The winner of each group can choose to keep the pig or if they have no place for the piggy at home they can auction it off at the end of the scramble. Participants will also receive a free t-shirt.

The rules for the scramble are simple. No open-toed shoes are permitted and spectators are asked to allow parents of the children participating in the round to move to the front so they can watch their child scramble.

Attendees at the pig scramble are asked to park in the field next to the store if there is no standing water and keep the store’s parking lot available for the P&L customers.

This event is free for all participants, but organizers are asking for parents to pre-register their child to make the event run more smoothly. Registration forms are available at P & L Country Market or they can be downloaded at the store’s website www.plcountrymarket.com.
