DEXTER – Tim Wilson, former Dexter High football coach from the 1960s and 1970s who has been named to run the football program for 2006, has put on board two of his former assistants from 39 years ago, Linwood “Butch” Wallace and Frank “Spook” Spizuoco, according to a local football spokesperson, who provided this additional information:

Tim has also added to the staff his son and Dexter Coach Carl Wilson who is beginning his fourth season at Dexter. Joining Carl will be Kevin Armstrong and Steve Spaulding, former Dexter High players.

Other coaches will be Phil Mosley and Mike Wallace, who will guide the Jr. High Program, and coaches John Hubbell, Mike Mower, John Fogarty, and Darrell King, who will direct the Town of Dexter Recreation Dept. Pee Wee Program.

Coaching will be seven local Dexter alumni who have played football in the Dexter program over the last 50 years, three former Dexter Coaches and Mike Wallace who has played four years of semi-pro football all over New England.

Letters and pre-season conditioning suggestions have recently been sent to three dozen Dexter athletes from past teams. All DRHS academically eligible students that are interested in participating are encouraged to join the team. All positions are wide open! Everyone will play. Coach Wilson emphasizes that grades come first and the football program will be developing a tutoring program so that no football players will become ineligible because of failing grades this fall.

First football practice is Monday, August 14, at 7:30 AM. A football knowledge written test will be given and then on the field each player will go through the Maine Police Academy Conditioning Test which includes a timed 1.5 mile run.

Scrimmages this year will be Livermore Falls in Dexter Monday, August 21 at 5 PM. and Madison away on Friday, August 25 at 7 PM.
