PENQUIS - Come Join Womancare volunteers, staff, friends and community members for our 14th Annual Race to End Domestic Violence on Saturday, October 2nd The race/walk event is fun for the whole family! The family walk has no entry fee and prizes are awarded for the team with the most pledges. Challenge your friends and family to help us win the fight against domestic violence one step at a time. Pre-registration fee for the 5k River Run is $12 or $15 the day of the race. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st,2nd and 3rd overall male and female finishers and medals will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place male and female finishers in each division. Call Womancare to pre-register, the first 75 people to register receive free t-shirts. We hope you'll come out and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage with us. If running a race is not for you, you may want to 'RUN' in to the Community Breakfast which will be held in the Piscataquis Community Elementary/Middle School from 8 to 11:00a.m. The cost is only $5.00 per person or $12.00 per family. It's delicious, it's home-made, and the best part is you don't have to cook or do the dishes! The menu includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, muffins, fruit, coffee and more… In October the staff and friends of Womancare hold an Annual Speakout and Candlelight Vigils in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness. Womancare hosts the annual Speakout in Dover-Foxcroft and candlelight vigils are held in Dexter, Milo, Guilford, and Greenville. Womancare invites the public to attend one or more of these events or to visit their local public libraries to view and read books on domestic violence. October reminds us to recognize the impact of domestic violence in our community, to remember the victims, celebrate the survivors, and to help ensure a nonviolent future.
