Wayside Theatre's Youth Theatre Classes to start Oct. 19
Tuesday, October 08, 2002
DEXTER - Registration for the first series of Wayside Youth Theatre classes will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Wayside Theatre (the old N. Dexter Grange Building on Rte. 23). These classes will be directed by Robert Keniston, assisted by his wife, Raelene, on Saturdays beginning October 19. No experience or previous training is necessary, and boys and girls in grades 2 through 7 throughout the area are invited to join this exciting new program. Classes will be divided into ten week sessions, at a fee of $10 per child per class ($100 per session), paid in advance. Grades 2 through 4 will meet from 10 am until noon, and grades 5 through 7 will meet from 1 until 3pm. Each session will include at least one stage production in which all the students will be involved.

Wayside Theatre is pleased to offer this opportunity for area children to experience the fun of theatre. Classes will include instruction in theatre terminology (ex: stage left vs. stage right, what is a "flat", what is a "cue", etc.), and coaching in stage presence, voice projection, understanding roles, etc. It has long been understood that even the youngest of children can benefit from this kind of training. It helps to build self-confidence, teaches the importance of commitment to a goal, shows children how to work well within a group, and makes it easier for them to speak in front of a classroom.

Bob Keniston is a retired elementary school teacher who has long experience in directing school productions, and he has served as director for Theatre Camps for children. He and Raelene are both accomplished actors who have appeared on many local stages, including Lakewood Theatre.

For information, please contact June Woodman at 924-8813 or Bob Keniston at 564-8049.
