Dexter Historical Society Geneology grant
DEXTER - Work is progressing on the research grant the Dexter Historical Society was recently awarded by the University of Maine System in collaboration with the Maine Humanities Council. The title of the grant project is "Assimilation and Heritage; A Study of Dexter Families of French-Canadian Descent, 1860-2000".

Several persons have requested and returned the questionnaire designed to gather information from residents of Franco-American heritage about their experiences and perspectives. Questionnaires have also been mailed directly to some residents. Other residents have shared considerable genealogical information and some photographs. The resources of the society's document collection have been assessed and analyzed for information about the Franco-American community. Interviews, that will be videotaped by Stan Dulac, have been scheduled.

The results of the grant project will be shared with the public at a meeting in November that will feature displays, an edited version of the videos recorded, refreshments and music.

Anyone who wishes to participate in the project may contact the Dexter Historical Society at P.O. Box 481, Dexter, ME 04930, by phone at 924-5721 or email at Dexter Historical Society.
