By Andrew Neff of the Bangor Daily News - BANGOR - The first time Central of Corinth and Dexter played this season, it was a 1-1 tie. The second meeting produced a 1-0 Central victory. On a chilly Monday night at Husson College's Winkin Complex with unrelenting precipitation the alternated between steady rain and drizzle, the third meeting of these perennial field hockey powers didn't figure to be any higher scoring. It wasn't. The Red Devils and Tigers kept things at a scoreless stalemate through two 30-minute halves, two eight-minute overtimes, and two sets of penalty corners before finally ending the scoring drought in the 15th penalty corner play. Rachel Trafton swept a rebounded save between goalie Katie Poirier's legs to give her No. 2 Red Devils a 1-0 win over the third-seeded Tigers and send Central into Wednesday's Eastern Maine Class C regional final against top-seeded Stearns of Millinocket |
