The Dexter Middle School Builder's Club is in the middle of their annual Coins in the Closet fundraiser for the local food closet. Last Saturday (15th), the Builder's Club members stood outside of local stores handing our lollypops for donations. Members of the club were at Bud's Shop N' Save, Renys, Tillsons, Toot's, Dexter Variety, and P&L Market during the morning hours.
The members also had a hat day at school and are just a hair's breath under $700.00. Great job Builder's Club! A special thanks also go to the businesses for allowing the club members to collect outside their establishments. The Key Club also passed the hat during our Tuesday meeting and collected $50 for the Builder's Club.
The Garland K-Kids met for the first time on Tuesday the 18th after school. Fourteen students have signed up and eight were in attendance. Lisa Downing and Beth Leighton are acting advisers for the Garland K-Kids this year. The Key Club attended the meeting and did an ice breaker activity with the children. The club also brought refreshments for their first meeting. The Garland K-Kids is helping with the Coins in the Closet fundraiser and they are helping the Key Club with cereal for the cereal drive. Their next meeting is scheduled for the second week in December.
The Exeter K-Kids will be meeting on Tuesday, December 2nd after school. Regina Fick will be taking over from Peter Prescott as adviser this year. The K-Kids program has good numbers this year with 53 in Dexter, 14 in Garland and we expect about the same number in Exeter, which should give us over 80 children in the K-Kids program in the SAD46 school system. That probably makes them the largest group in SAD46.
The Key Club has Thanksgiving week off from school, but we still have several activities planned for the week. Stay tuned.
The Key Club would also like to wish all our readers a happy Thanksgiving day. "This content originally appeared as a copyrighted article in the SVWeekly.com and is used here with permission."
