Food Closet in Dexter
Friday, November 28, 2003
DEXTER - The Dexter Community Food Closet is located at the First Free Baptist Church, 130 Spring Street, Dexter. The closet has been in operation at the church for approximately one year; prior the closet was operated from several churches and even one private home.

The organization distributes food on the first and third Saturday of each month from 9 to 10 AM. Emergency food services are also available. The food closet serves the towns of Dexter and Ripley and accommodates approximately 70 families every two months (approx. 250-300 people every two months).

Currently the closet has a high demand for the following donations: paper goods, toiletries, peanut butter, stuffing, canned pumpkin, canned squash, canned fruits as well as other holiday food items to accompany Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. To date, Manna Soup Kitchen has made it possible for 64 families to enjoy a turkey this holiday season.

Students, Boy Scouts, the Key Club, the Post Office, the Sunshine Club, Sunrise Kiwanis, VFW, American Legion, the Town of Dexter, United Way, Penquis CAP, etc. have supported the closet with monetary and food donations.

For further information contact Co-Coordinator Avon Woodard at 924-3056.

The Dexter Middle School Builders Club is once again participating in the Coins For The Closet program to benefit the Dexter Community Food Closet.

Last year the club raised approximately $500 for the local food closet.

On Saturday, November 22nd, students stood outside local businesses and accepted monetary donations. Club members will collect coin donations from their fellow students Monday, December 1st thru Friday, December 19th.

Thoses interested in supporting Coins For the Closet may drop off monetary donations at Dexter Middle School's main office through Friday, December 19th.
