DEXTER - Penquis recently received a grant for $5,000 to support the Penquis Journey House. The check was presented by Mitzi Rogers, Store Manager of the TJ Maxx store in Bangor, on behalf of T.J. Maxx, TJX and The TJX Foundation. The TJX Foundation mission is to contribute to programs that help disadvantaged women, children and families in the communities in which they do business.
The Penquis Journey House is a maternity group home serving pregnant and parenting young women, ages 16-21, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Laurie Dunton, for Penquis, says, “The grant will make a difference in the lives of the residents”. Located in Dexter, the Penquis Journey House provides short-term shelter and support services necessary for young women and their children to achieve healthy, self-sufficient lives. Residents receive transitional living services, including safe housing and 24-hour adult supervision; case management; parenting and life skills training; and access to education and other community resources. |
