Dexter panel denies camp owner's appeal
Thursday, December 05, 2002
DEXTER - The local board of appeals on Monday denied an administrative appeal filed by a Brewer man regarding the construction of a camp on Fire Lane 3 on the shorefront of Lake Wassookeag.

Ronald Hewes had hoped to show the board of appeals that Code Enforcement Officer Bill Murphy had misinterpreted the planning board's decision on the issuance of his permit in February. Murphy had placed a stop-work order on the construction of the camp in late September because he claimed the building's size exceeded the permit

Hewes had obtained from the planning board and the town's zoning laws.

The main problem was that the roof rafters increase the volume of the structure far more than local laws allow, he said.

Hewes, who attended this week's board meeting and a site inspection of the camp made earlier Monday, felt there was no violation.

If Hewes does not appeal the decision in court, he will be required to reduce the structure of the roof to bring the building into compliance, according to Murphy.
