Greenville: Police probe car burglaries in Greenville, Dexter
Monday, December 18, 2006
By Diana Bowley of the Bangor Daily News - Police suspect that someone or a group of people are working the Piscataquis County and Dexter areas in search of loose change and valuables left in vehicles.

About 17 unlocked vehicles in Greenville were rifled through on Saturday night, according to Greenville Police Chief Duane Alexander. The vehicles burglarized were on Lily Bay Road, Lawrence Avenue, and Norris and Pleasant streets.

Alexander said an average of $4 to $6 in change was taken from the vehicles. In addition, a buck knife, a credit card, a new DVD, and a prescription for depression medicine were reported missing, he said.

Because wallets, checkbooks and a GPS device were left behind, Alexander believes the burglars are quickly rifling through the vehicles for loose change before moving on to their next target.

Similar burglaries have been reported in the past few weeks in Dexter and Guilford.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity on the four roads that were targeted should call the Greenville Police Department at 695-3835.
