Human Services – General Assistance

The Human Services/General Assistance office is available {preferably by appointment} to assist local residents locate and possibly apply for resources. General assistance can help with, if eligible, rent, electric, heat, food, and/or household supplies. Eligibility guidelines, application, required documents, forms, and requirements are listed below.

This office also completes the application to obtain a Dexter Community Food Cupboard Card.
TEFAP and Food Cupboard Application-2016-2017  – Please bring proof of income for all household members and either a rental lease, mortgage statement, or a completed rental verification form with you to your appointment.

I can also assist with completing the former rent/Property tax refund which is now called the Property Tax Fairness Credit.  

Another part of my job is to manage the Clothes Closet. Residents from Dexter, Exeter, Garland, and Ripley are welcome to come in and pick out/up 20 free items per week per household. Donations of clothes, toys, shoes/boots, bedding, and household items are accepted. All I ask is the items be clean and stain free.

“CHRISTMAS FOR KIDS” 2019

ALL COMPLETED APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION NEED TO BE RETURNED TO JEAN JACOBS IN PERSON.

The town of Dexter “CHRISTMAS FOR KIDS” program will be accepting applications beginning November 1st, 2019 and ending November 29th, 2019 for Dexter residents that have the child/children listed on the application living in their home full time.

REQUIREMENTS:

Proof of residency {ex. Rental lease, Mortgage statement etc.}.

Proof of household income {ex. SSI/Soc. Sec. award letter, Bank statement, Paycheck stubs, TANF, etc.}

Proof the child/children are residing in your home {DHHS benefit statement for TANF, Food Stamps, Maine Care, Letter from the school they attend, etc.} will be accepted.

Applications will not be accepted from people getting gifts from any other program.

After the November 29th deadline NO applications will be accepted.

Pick up dates for the gifts will be December 18th, 2019

December 19th, 2019

                                                       December 20th, 2019

Applications can be picked up at the Dexter Town Office, the General Assistance Office, the Clothes Closet, and from the 2nd floor lobby area.
